We, Filipinos, are naturally food lovers. When we were young, there were these foods that our parents and our grandparents, especially, will surely love to prepare for us. There were also these foods that are distinct dish or menu of our family, and are even pass on from generation to generation. During feasts or occasions, there are still these foods that will always be present on our table tops. Who are not familiar with foods like biko, suman, puto and bibingka? These are just some of the foods I grew up munching that are really prepared at home and are made with love. As you are reading this, do you have in mind that famous delicacy your family is known to prepare? (Let me know through your comments below).
As I came to Cebu last year, I became fascinated with the
city’s lights, with the unlimited offerings of some food shops and restaurants
and its interior designs, the tastes of trendsetting milkteas and frappes and
mostly with the instagrammable designs most of cafés and coffee shops have. However,
my country-girl heart still seeks for that dishes I grew up with, and sometimes
miss and wish to find some of those delicacies in the heart of Cebu. As I was
browsing my Facebook newsfeed, I happen to see this post and my heart skipped a
Thank God, that in this vast town like Cebu City, I finally found the meriendas and local
delicacies I am mostly familiar with. Not only that I found them, but what also
delights my travel-spirit heart is I can pair these delicacies special in my
heart while having a scenic mountain view. How lovely would that be, right? So
with great excitement and without a doubt, to finally taste these long-time
favorite delicacies we all grew up loving, I invited my friends to come and
As we arrived in the place, it was raining so hard, so hard that we can hardly see the mountain top. However, this did not worry us, because we were welcomed by a foggy mountain which we can rarely see and experience in the city, so we were enjoying our mug with that foggy background. The fun just started…
We had the chance to interview one of its co-owner, Ms. Divine Valiente, and we were inspired by their aspirations for the café. Maharlicup does not only give you a perfect view for your perfect mug, but more importantly, they showcase varied local delicacies all over the Philippines. Each delicacy has its own story, each representing its town. When you come to Maharlicup, you’re like touring around the Philippines, each is represented with a famous local delicacy. At the moment, most of their delicacies come from the different towns of Cebu, so more like you’re knowing the culture of Cebuanos through their delicacies served at Maharlicup.
Below are Maharlicup’s main local delicacies that you can check and taste when you visit at their place.
At some random times, Maharlicup also serves varied delicacies that some locals would bring into their café. They support micro entrepreneurs by purchasing these homemade delicacies and displaying it in their shop. By doing so, they help the small entrepreneurs get a sustainable living.
Imagine yourself having snacks here with your friends and
families, and automatically, you were able to help out and support local
communities without getting an idea! But now that you’re reading this, I hope
you’ll support even more by spreading the news and sharing this good news to
I hope that you can come by at Maharlicup if you want to escape the noisy and busy street of the city. Or if you will bring some friends to Sirao, don’t miss the chance to drop by at this café as this is only by the Transcentral Highway. It is highly encouraged to come at golden hours to maximize the mountainous view. Most of the café’s loyal customers are bikers who pass by at 6AM having their runs.

many of you love the atmosphere of working in a café? Perhaps for some, they
love the smell of a brewing coffee; others may after the air-conditioned place that
makes them stay cool and comfortable; some would love the cozy background
perfect for their social media posts; or for most, they seek for the strong
internet connection they need for their research and other stuffs.
a person like me who originally came from South of the Philippines, Zamboanga
and Basilan, studying or working in a café is a new thing to do. When I first
came to Cebu to pursue my higher education, I didn’t know this thing is a
trend! When I was studying in college, I remember working for my school-related
stuffs and studying for my exams either in the boarding house only or in the
school library. We only had internet shops then where most students indulge in
playing online games or doing some research for a school project.
I came to Cebu to study, I had a hard time doing my school works, reading
hundreds of pages of articles, writing my papers and meeting my deadlines
because I had one nursery and two pre-schoolers who would always interrupt me
when I am about to work. Then, I was able to enter this very cute café (that
was my first) and I had a pleasant stay there studying and working on my school
I realized that there are actually many cafés in town, and the choices are limitless! In my 11 months of stay in Cebu now (as of this writing), I had been hopping from cafés to another in search for a perfect place to work. I was never satisfied for the total service of each of these cafés. There are those with little space that gets crowded when too many gets in. Others also may have a nice, instagrammable ambiance but offers a poor internet, which is a sad thing for me. For most of the cafés, students who get in are merely chitchatting, others in high tone that distract others’ work. For these reasons, my work is always interrupted and I cannot perform at my best and fullest potential.
At last, I Found You!
Just 2 months ago, my husband’s classmate introduced us to this café in F. Ramos. Those were the days when our finals were coming, and the school year is almost to end. We had a lot of papers to do – strenuous writing that needs 100% concentration. The first time I went here, I posted it already in my Facebook account because I was so happy and satisfied. Since then, my husband and I have been coming here whenever we needed a place to work.
Even if it is far
from our place, Bacayan, we don’t mind coming to this place because nothing
compares the comfortability and super-fast internet connection that the place
Friends and laagans, I introduce to you my favorite café in town – WORKPLACE CAFÉ! Everything in my checklist, things that I look for in a café, are all present here, with still a lot of things to offer that makes us a happy and contented customer.
What Makes Workplace Café Different From Others?
Workplace Café is the first co-working café in the Philippines and is such a best place to study and work while you are enjoying a coffee shop ambiance. I have enumerated below the things I love about this place – the reasons why I always love to come back whenever I have a serious work to do.
1. Super-Fast Internet Connection
This is my topmost favourite reason why I love coming back to Workplace. They actually offer a fiber wifi connection that is super fast and super strong. With Workplace, you will never be disconnected!
I go to a café, I always position myself to a table close to a power outlet.
Here in Workplace, wherever you are seated, power outlets are present! You will
never have a problem charging your mobile phones, laptops or any gadgets you’re
love the swivel chairs here. I always feel comfortable even if I stay and sit
for long hours. I never feel any discomforts.
4. Cozy and Peaceful Ambiance with Cool Interior Design
place and its interior design is very relaxing, and upon your first step in the
café, you’ll say that the people here are very engrossed with whatever they’re
working. It inspires you to work harder, too. You’ll hear no shouting or
talking in a loud voice – peaceful, indeed!
5. Power Nap Station
When you feel sleepy and drained from long hours of working, you certainly would want to pause, take a break and take a nap. Don’t worry there’s a place, too, where you can comfortably close your eyes and sleep. The last time we went here, I honestly had taken a long nap! Haha
6.Open 20 Hours Daily
We don’t need to worry on rushing things thinking that the café will soon close at a specific hour. In most cafés, they are only open until 12MN or 2AM at most, the next day. At workplace, they operate from 10AM to 6AM (the next day). Usually, MM and I come to Workplace even at 8PM or 9PM because we know we still have long hours to work.
7.Buying of Foods Not Compulsory
Most of the cafés will require you to buy and order food first before you can use the amenities. Here at workplace, you’re not required to buy, you can actually bring your own food if you don’t like to buy. You only have to pay here their hourly/daily/monthly rates and you’re good to go:
Hourly Rate: 60php on the first hour and 40php on the succeeding hours.
Daily Rate: 320php (best for those staying 8 hours or more)
Monthly Rate: 5000php per month inclusive of a locker
The rates you pay include a complimentary drink, either an iced tea or a brewed coffee. Paying the rates above will grant you access to the amenities offered by Workplace.
8. Delicious Meals and Snacks that Support Local Products
may not require you to buy their food but in case you want to order, their menu
offers palatable meals. Aside from this, their coffees are fresh from Bukidnon
Farms and their signature chocolate drink are chocolate tableas from cacaos
harvested from a local farm in Argao, Cebu.
9. Conference Room
When you are in a small group who would want to hold meetings, conference and workshops, Workplace also has a conference room that caters to this kind of event. Check out the conference rooms and its rates below:

It is important for the customers that the staffs are very warm and friendly and they have it here. The guard in fact is very welcoming as he opens the door for you.
11. Systematic Ordering and Checking-in
When customers get in, they log in and are given a certain number and the voucher code for the wifi. If you are looking for a place to stay in Oslob that is a perfect escape getaway with a very affordable and reasonable price, then worry not because I found a secret haven for all of you, and now, it’s no longer a secret! 🙂 “Stay N Save” is the best place for you.
As I mentioned in my previous blog , I was a happy and satisfied customer and so I am writing this separate review to commend the resort for the service and place they offer. As I said previously, you can book at this resort through booking.com. In our case, however, because it was very rush, my debit card was not accepted. Luckily, I found them on Facebook, so I was able to messaged them, transferred money thru BDO online banking and finally I was able to book with them through their Facebook page account.
Because of the many tourists coming to
Oslob, I suggest you have to book earlier as walk-ins are not guaranteed to be
10 things I love about Stay N Save
The following are the highlights of the things I love about the place.
1. Affordable Rates
Stay N Save is perfect for those who are looking for a nature-looking, cool, instagrammable place yet one that comes with an affordable price. If you are like me who checks on two things first before booking: (1) amusing place with great reviews and (2) affordable rate, then Stay N Save is indeed the perfect place for you.
Check out below their reasonably priced rooms:
We booked for Glamping Double, and truly, we enjoyed it, as narrated in my previous blog. Others are also very refreshing in the eyes. I personally would have wanted to book on Teepee Double Room, because it is very interesting and captivating (though I saw it only on their Facebook Page. Please check their page to learn more. Unfortunately, there were no more rooms available for two and we ended up Glamping. That might have been a blessing in disguise since we were offered with this brand new experience , I bet you’ll never regret glamping, too! 🙂
2. They have their own resto/mini-bar.
If you need something to eat at any hour, they have their mini-resto bar which offers different variety of foods to taste. You can either stay in their resto bar or you can let the staff bring the food to your room.
3. They offer and set romantic dinner/date.
When you want to surprise your loved one for a romantic dinner date, Stay N Save will do it for you. You just need to inform them ahead about your plan. In my case, I messaged them thru Facebook and they are very glad to do it.
Price: 500php per person inclusive of a starter, main course dessert and a glass of wine or drink.
4. They prepare anniversary cakes.
If you also want to have a cake on your dinner date, anniversaries or birthdays, or whatever the occasion maybe, they are also very willing and happy to prepare this for you (Price ranges from 250php and above). You just have to inform them ahead as well about the details on what to write for dedication on the cake. I also just messaged them about this thru FB.
Below is the cake I requested for our 6th wedding anniversary.
5.Their staffs are friendly and accommodating.
Their staffs are all approachable and whatever you need, you just have to tell them and they will give it to you. They were also very polite in asking and reminding of the time when to serve our dinner food.
6.Their bathrooms have hot shower.
Although we booked for glamping only, that did not limit us to enjoy their hot showers. They actually have bathrooms outside, and two of the four public bathrooms are with hot showers. So you need not to worry of waking up early and getting a cold bath because you can still enjoy their hot showers amenities.
7. Their place is along the highway.
Their place is not difficult to find. I actually got worried at first that we might get lost and will not find their place. But when I messaged them on Facebook, the only instruction was to say to the bus’s conductor to drop us off at STAY N SAVE since their place is along the highway, and truly the conductor of the Ceres Bus knows the place, and told us that we already have arrived.
8. Walking distance to whale shark encounter registration.
This is also one of the main reasons why I booked here. We don’t need to get up so early or commute for the registration area of the whale shark encounter, Stay N Save is only about ten minute-walk down to the main activity area. However, based from our experience, I advise travellers and tourists to still get up early, like 5:00AM to go to registration area for this activity. We went past 6AM already and the area is already fully packed with tourists at that time. We waited for around 1.5 – 2 hours before we were able to ride our boat for the whale shark encounter.
9.Perfect place for sunrise viewing.
What a delightful morning it is to wake up with a sunrise view! This is my favorite unexpected event before walking down to the registration area. Just in front of our glamp site is the perfect sunrise telling us a wonderful day ahead! Check out below my sunrise photos you will surely love!
10. Very attractive, peaceful, picture-perfect scenery.
This is exactly the main reason why I chose to book at Stay N’ Save. They have this private, super excluded area that is a perfect beach getaway – an impeccable escape from the busy, noisy, crowded place that a city gives! So, if you’re like me who adores the smell of the sea breeze, the splash of waves coming to your feet, the beauty of rock formations from sediments, the nature-perfect scenery in front of your eyes, I tell you, “Stay N Save” is the right place for you!
Can’t still believe? Check out my photos below:
So, what are you waiting for? Come stay at STAY N SAVE and save those pennies you’ve been working so hard! A wonderful experience need not to be expensive. It’s finding the beauty in every ordinary things and simple places. BUT, wait! STAY N SAVE gives you an extraordinary place and remarkable experience, all at an affordable amount! This is something you would not want to miss when you’re around Oslob. Why not give it a try?
Read on the last few paragraphs of my previous post about how to go to Oslob and visit STAY N SAVE on their Facebook Page here to learn more about their resort.
Share to me about your thoughts regarding this and I am very much willing to help you and reply to you. See you on my next blog. Happy wandering, laagans!
